The subterranean 86 is one of the hottest new spots in town – a former speakeasy, newly recreated.* Come get reconnected with CUE at this Hollywood underground. Thanks to the amazing generosity of the Columbia University School of the Arts Dean's Office, we've reserved it just for you with open bar and free food. We intend to make this evening as memorable as last summer's party while welcoming festival participants.

But come hang out in the stage lounge, pull up to one of 2 bars that look like they’ve been lit by one of the better gaffers in town, or wax exclusive relaxing in one of the private rooms, including the new Goldwyn Room. Even smokers will feel at home, as 86 provides interior smoking breezeway lounges (with one-way mirror...non-smokers will brave the smoke to see it).
 
Columbia Dominates Student Acadamy Awards Finals

The School of the Arts announced that "Columbia University School of the Arts' Film Division students have virtually swept the narrative film category in the Eastern Regional Finals of the Student Academy Awards. Seven out of Eight nominated films are by Columbia SoA Film Students." Read the full article here.
 
Sundance Rundown - Columbia's presence in Park City

ImageColumbia garnered top prizes in three out of the four categories for feature films—dramatic, documentary, and world documentary. Columbia's success at Sundance 2008 is not an anomaly—previous Columbia-affiliated films include Padre Nuestro, Little Miss Sunshine, and Half Nelson.

Many of the 2008 festival filmmakers joined film division Chair Jamal Joseph and the new Dean of the School of the Arts, Carol Becker, at a Columbia Alumni Association and School of the Arts reception in their honor during the first weekend of Sundance. As the reception commenced at the swank 350 Main Brasserie, Joseph gave a speech that commended Columbia's achievement and the artists in attendance.

CUE Holiday Party Brings Broadway flavor to Hollywood Boulevard!

Image As anyone who made it to this year’s CUE/NYU party can tell you - our first holiday party was a hit! With over 400 RSVPs, the guests in attendance brought plenty of holiday cheer to the evening – and Memphis turned out to be a perfect venue. Alumni and friends from both Columbia and NYU were able to meet and mingle throughout the evening – creating an excellent opportunity for networking. All around, it was a great night to meet new people from both schools, and see old friends as well. Brainstorming for future CUE/Tisch West event are in the works!

Many thanks to the people who helped put this event together, include Anthony Agoni and the CUAASC board; our CUE event team – NaRhee Ahn, Hersch Faber, and especially Scott Foster; Tisch West’s team – and especially James Latham; Micky Hohl for taking pictures; Jeff Gund for helping with the venue; and the team at Memphis for making the evening go smoothly; and to all of the people who showed up to make the night a success!
